Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Amidst the war, Zelensky has removed all military officers from their jobs. What is the reason behind this decision?

Volodymyr Zelensky: Amidst conflicts, cases of removing military officers from their positions in any country are quite rare. If such a situation arises, there's usually a significant reason behind it. Similar circumstances have been observed in Ukraine, where President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed all his military officers from their jobs.

According to the news agency AFP, Ukrainian President Zelensky, referring to corruption, has removed officers responsible for military recruitment across various sectors of the country. He stated that corruption during wartime is equivalent to treason. Corruption has been widespread in Ukraine on a large scale. Even before the war, people had to deal with issues like corruption. This time, it's also being observed within the military.

The decision was made after a meeting with military officers.

In fact, Zelensky had a meeting with senior military officers. Following this, he posted on social media, "We are removing all local military officials. This system should be run by those who understand what war is and why during times of war, doubt, and bribery are considered treason." Ukraine has been in conflict with Russia since last February.

Demand to end corruption

As the war continues with Russia, recruitment of young people from various parts of Ukraine is underway. The officers who were dismissed were supposed to recruit youths for Ukraine's army from different regions. Calls from Western countries and organizations like the European Union have consistently urged Ukraine to address the corruption within its borders.

The decision to dismiss military officers by the Ukrainian government marks a significant step in this series. A statement issued by the Presidential Office stated that the corruption involved in appointments by military officers poses a significant threat to the country's national security. This has cast a shadow over the credibility of the country's institutions. Now, the Chief of the General Staff will choose officers to complete the military appointment process.
